'Madam Butterfly' is one of Puccini's Operas often presented with large budgets and in big scale theaters. Eternity Opera looks to create smaller productions of these often grand scale Operas to make them more accessible to the wider community. This version of the opera was in English, once again to grant accessibility and draw in younger audiences.
'Madam Butterfly', set in Nagasaki, tells the tale of a young Japanese women who marries and falls in love with an American Officer. The Officer soon returns to The United States leaving her waiting for his return. This story deals with issues of honor/dishonor, the price of cultural assimilation, and love and power.
This design was simple, evoking Japanese architecture and symbols of religion and nature.
