H20: The Story of Water and Hawaii

- Honolulu Theatre For Youth, Honolulu Hawaii

'H20: The Story of Water and Hawaii' was an educational piece including topics such as: the science behind water; the value of water; and water conservation and pollution, particularly marine debris. This project was devised by the theatre company and developed along side companies including: NOAA; Sustainable Coastlines; and Hawaii Department of Health. It went on a one month tour around all the Hawaiian islands in October/November, 2016, where I worked as both Scenic Designer and Stage Manager. The set was covered in marine debris collected from the ocean and shores around Oahu. Over the ceiling hung marine debris, fish netting, and twinkling lights, to create a feeling of being under the trash infested sea. We collaborated with the education deparment of HTY where schools brought in one ounce of trash, which the students turned into art mobile pieces that were added to the house dressing after every show. One ounce of plastic is on average how much plastic each American uses and discards every three hours.
