La'ieikawai

- Kennedy Theatre, Honolulu Hawaii

'La'ieikawai' was the first full Hawaiian production at the University of Hawai'i, Kennedy Theatre being in its 51st year. This production was, and still is, an extremely important event for the Hawaiian community all over the Islands. The whole show was completely in the Hawaiian language, and included Hula, Mele and Oli. This story is based on the myth of La'ieikawai, the most beautiful women in all of Hawai'i. The set was inspired by Hawaiian tattoo work, the linear but also organic factors of nature, and the overall feeling of the land. For this show I also worked as puppet/mask designer and Scenic Artist. This production and a touring version of the scenic design went on tour to the University of Hawaii at Hilo (on the Big Island of Hawaii), to the island of Kauai, and a small group of people toured to Hamilton, New Zealand.
